More on Farm Fresh

August 17, 2008

Here’s some information about Farm Fresh getting shut down from the owner Par Aria.  This includes items he told us on CCN, and much more info that we couldn’t include on the newscast.  Some eye-opening information here, that I’m not sure has been printed or aired yet.

Oh, and by the way, for those questioning our journalistic ethics and abilities because we “post only one side of the story” on the CCN Blog, aside from blogs operating completely differently than actual news programs, we’ve tried numerous times to contact Dorn Platz, and never gotten a response.  If we received information from some others or “the other side” we’d post that too.  Not that the comment we saw the other day on another blog actually deserves a response, but just in case any of our viewers gave it any credence…Hey, but at least the blogger reads the CCN Blog!

Anyway, here’s the info from Aria:

General Information Related To Farm Fresh Problems

Par Aria,Owner

By now almost everybody in Altadena community and surrounding cities are aware of the problems related to Altadena Lincoln Crossing project (ALC). Your community should not have allowed this type of developer with deep pocket and deeper connection with powerful politicians to use their premeditated notion, empty promises, and misrepresentation in order to entice innocent business owners to come and invest millions of dollars of  hard earned money in your neighborhood project. We came to ALC with good faith and assuming that it is going to be a fair business investment and dealing with decent developers. But the truth is they are not decent and they are untouchables. There is no way that anybody can protect themselves against this type of individuals and their practices. How come in one project there are so many lawsuits against the developer? 100% of everybody involved in the construction of ALC, such as contractors, engineers, small & large, were short changed. Among all the contractors and tenants, as far as we know, 6 of them have been awarded successfully in getting some kind of judgment / moneys from the developer.

1)      The concrete contractor :   $300,000

2)      Summit builder :                 $600,000

3)      Swinerton builder :             $1.5 Million

4)      Contractor Allen :               undisclosed amount yet

5)      Panda Express :                 Free Rent against their judgment of award

6)      Mat Pharmacy :                 $50,000

7)      At least 4 architecture and engineering companies : on the process

8)      Western Air :                     Went out of business

Whereas there is possibility of more than 10 lawsuits to come, whereas not to mention yet East West Bank (click here for more).

Pasadena Man in Standoff with Police

August 12, 2008

SWAT and Negotiation Teams convinced 45 Year old Carlos Artavia to release his 9 year old son and after getting flushed out with tear gas and running back into his garage, he finally surrendered to police.  He was wounded and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The standoff took about 10 hours, starting at 4:40 Monday afternoon.  It happened in the 1500 Block of North El Molino Avenue.  Apparently someone had initially called police saying there was a man with a gun and who had his child with him.  Click here for the PPD Press Release:

This looks like a pretty interesting story from Cal Tech.   Here’s the press release they sent a little while ago.

July 31, 2008

Caltech Bioengineers Develop 'Microscope On A Chip' Pasadena, CA – Researchers at the California Institute of Technology have turned science fiction into reality with their development of a super-compact high-resolution microscope, small enough to fit on a finger tip. This “microscopic microscope” operates without lenses but has the magnifying power of a top-quality optical microscope, can be used in the field to analyze blood samples for malaria or check water supplies for giardia and other pathogens, and can be mass-produced for around $10.

Farm Fresh Follow-up

August 12, 2008

I’m having a heck of a time getting the CCN Blog on our website to do what I want to do…namely rich text editing, and uploading pictures and video, so I’ve created this wordpress version of it with abbreviated stories and you can link you over to our website to get the full story.  Pain!

Anyway, love him or not Steve Lamb adds an interesting perspective to happenings in Altadena and Pasadena, so he sent me a lot of background info on the Farm Fresh and Lincoln Crossing Development in general.  Click here to read the full e-mail:
